10 cm. Iris dark brown. Above olive-green with a broad light supraloral stripe and white eye ring. Tertials with broad white borders. Below yellowish with olive-green streaks on the throat and olive clouding on the chest. Usually a low "tir.r.r.r.r.r.r.r" , sometimes at various different pitches or descending in pitch. Occurs in the lower and middle stratus of forest interior. Forages by performing upward strikes from a perch. Does not follow mixed flocks. An endemic tyrant flycatcher of the forest interior. Uncommon to fairly common in the interior of secondary and primary rain forest. Throughout the Serra do Mar area, Rio de Janeiro, Parati, Ubatuba, Serra dos Org<C4>os<8E>and in the<8E>Reserva Ecol<D4>gica Guapiac<DB> <8E>. Up to 1000 meters ^44 . 2435 Calls.
