8 cm. Above olive-green. Brownish on crown. Sides of head dark reddish buff. A black area below the eye and a black crescent on the ear coverts separated from the olive-green neck by a white crescent. Wings dusky-black with olive-yellow margins to the primaries and two indistinct wing bars. White throat streaked blackish Below yellow streaked olive on the breast. Tail dusky-black. A clear trill often followed or preceded by single "tik....tik..." notes. Forages in middle stratum of dense woodland borders by performing upward strikes. Relatively easy to observe. We found a pocket shaped nest with side entrance in a bank on the side of a road near Iporanga, S<C4>o Paulo State, on 11-5-1995 M. B. Ramos Neto, H. G. Remold . Relatively common at borders and near breaks in dense humid secondary and primary forest. Not found in the interior of dense forests. Throughout the area. <8E>PE Jacupiranga State Park, Fazenda Intervales, Apiai, Serra do Mar, Itatiaia, Serra dos Org<C4>os<8E>. To 1500 meters in the<8E>Serra Mantiqueira<8E>.
