11 cm. A distinctively colored long-tailed Phyllomyias tyrannulet of the Atlantic rain forest. Bill short and thick, entirely blackish. Head, throat and upper chest light slate-gray. A faint lighter superciliary stripe and eye ring. Back green. Wings blackish with 2 bright narrow yellow wing bars. Breast and belly bright yellow-olive. Not very vocal species. Calls are a sequence of rather low "weer" or shorter "tweet" notes, up to 6 or 7, slowly descending like "weer.... weer.... weer.... weer.... weer..... weer...." reminiscent of the calls of Hypocnemis cantator. Also a drawn out ascending whistle "weeeiiiii" which is repeated several times. An upward hover-gleaner ^31 , mostly high up in the forest canopy, but also lower. Frequently in mixed bird parties. Not uncommon in primary and secondary rain forest and borders.
