12 cm. A rather long tailed tyrant flycatcher of the interior of dense forests. Frequently lifts a wing up over the back. <NCrown deep brown, the sides of the head grizzled gray and with a black ear spot. Above olive-brown. Wings brownish-black with two buff wingbars, the primaries with yellow margins. Grayish-white on the throat becoming sulphur-yellow on the chest and belly. Tail black. A characteristic fast rolling sequence of low "dre" notes such as "dre dre dredre dredredredredredredredredre" rising slightly in pitch. This call is not repeated very often. Also a "psewrr, rreo.." etc. ^30 . Rather unobtrusive and quiet, a denizen of the lower forest strata. Forages by upward hover-gleaning and also consumes fruits ^74 . Builds a hanging nest with a side entrance in a protected location Ihering, ^30 . Common in the lower strata up to 3 meters of humid and drier dense primary and secondary woodland.
