12 cm. The male is slaty blue-gray above, sometimes with some olive on the shoulders. Wings blackish with two white wing-bars and margins to the primaries and secondaries. Below white-gray with white on the belly. <NFemale has a gray head and is otherwise bright olive-brown green above. Wing bands yellow-whitish. Throat dull white, otherwise light yellow-green below. Vocalizations vary. According to Recording by W. Belton in litt. the male vocalizes "sisisisisisisisisisi" and the female answers "dididididididi ziiee.... ..didididididididi ziiee ", the ziiee higher and emphasized see cut 3 . Call is of high descending whistles, and a high short "zwii....zwii".
