The account
Description
12 cm. The male is slaty blue-gray above, sometimes with some olive on the shoulders. Wings blackish with two white wing-bars and margins to the primaries and secondaries. Below white-gray with white on the belly.
Female has a gray head and is otherwise bright olive-brown green above. Wing bands yellow-whitish. Throat dull white, otherwise light yellow-green below.

How the map was made
The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.
The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.
The account, continued
Voice
Vocalizations vary. According to Recording by W. Belton (in litt.) the male vocalizes 'sisisisisisisisisisi' and the female answers 'dididididididi ziiee.... ..didididididididi ziiee ', the "ziiee" higher and emphasized (see cut #3). Call is of high descending whistles, and a high short 'zwii....zwii'.
Behavior
A canopy dweller which forages gnat-catcher-like mainly by perch-gleaning (the prey is taken while bird remains perched), and does also some upward hover-gleaning from an enclosed position within the canopy (74).
Breeding
Nests of the Myiopagis species are small open cups (86).
Habitat and status
A fairly common small canopy flycatcher, in all types of humid primary and secondary forest. Usually quite inconspicuous and difficult to see. Inland in gallery forests and also in dryer open forests.
Distribution
Throughout. Found in the coastal forests and also at Itatiaia. In Estado São Paulo reported by Pinto from Ubatuba, Juquiá , Itararé (near PE Jacupiranga), Lins, Valpariso, Bebedouro and Vitoriana in the central and northern part of the state. To 1200 meters (44).
