9 cm. Red iris. <NMales are all black with a white cap. <NThe female has the crown, nape and cheeks grayish, otherwise olive above. Grayish below washed olive on the breast and sides. <NImmature males have a whitish-gray crown, a dark olive back and dark gray underparts ^44 . Call "wreeea..... wreeea..wrei", "wrrrei... wriii... wrriit.... wriit..." and descending short whistles. Foraging in the low and middle stratum of forest. A fruit eater. Advertising males call from the middle stratum of the forest. In the undergrowth of primary and secondary humid forests. Mostly extralimital.
