Red-ruffed Fruitcrow

35 cm. The largest Cotinga in this area. The bill of the male is mostly gray with a bluish tone. Black with shiny red bib covering lower throat and breast. Legs gray. <NFemales have dark gray bill. Call of the displaying male is a far-carrying booming sound "uum...uum...uum" like blowing over the top of a bottle. Favors the canopy of tall trees. The calling male at the lek site leans forward and extends the red throat patch sideways. The dove-like flight is diagnostic. Uncommon in primary and secondary mature humid forest.
