24 cm. A large gray thrush-like cotingid. Gray all over, scaled grayish white on the throat and breast. Wings brown. Song is a sequence of characteristic whistles which can be transcribed as "ssup-ssup..sei..ssup-ssup", repeated frequently. Common locally in middle stratum of forest. Associated with palmitos Euterpe edulis whose fruits it consumes. Locally common in primary and mature secondary humid forest where there are stands of Euterpe edulis palms. Extinct in most of the area. Common only at<8E>Fazenda Intervales<8E>.
