26 cm. A spectacular endemic cotinga of the high mountains. The male is unmistakable with an orange bill and black plumage with a large patch of orange-yellow on the primaries. <NThe female is uniform olive-green with yellow on the belly and flight feathers. Song a very high pitched ascending whistle lasting 3 to 4 seconds "wiiiiiiiii...." repeated frequently. Some shorter high pitched notes can also be heard Cut 6 . Forages in the canopy of montane forest.
