20 cm. Yellow eye ring. Ashy gray all over, paler below. The wings and tail are darker, the wing feathers with large cinnamon rufous terminal spots. Some of these spots are also on feathers of the belly and breast and may indicate young birds. Crissum washed rufous. Hidden pectoral tuft yellow or rufous Call is a high whining whistle, "teeey... teeeuWI.. .teeeuWI... teeeeuWI... teeeeuwi....", emphasis on the "wi", repeated. Perches inconspicuously at middle level of forest trees. Considered to be an outward-hover-gleaner and fruit eater ^74 . Rare within primary rain forest or mature secondary forest. Extralimital.
