12 cm. Lower mandible yellow. <NMale is bluish gray above. Rusty on lower back and rump. Throat, breast and belly white, the sides of breast bluish gray and the sides of belly and crissum chestnut, barred black. <NFemale is dark brown above. Below like the male. <NImmature is brown above, coarsely barred buff and dusky below ^44 . Song is an amphibian-like low guttural ascending trill "arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr", apparently similar to the call of the toad Proceratophrys boiei, ^70 , an inhabitant of the Atlantic rainforest.<N Contact call is a sequence of about 10 "tshe" calls starting very slow and accelerating like a steam engine, therefore the name "trenzinho" little train cut 3 . Alarm call a "teck", often uttered at 1 sec intervals for a long time. Foraging in the interior of dense thickets close to the ground.
