Collared Crescentchest

14.5 cm. Sexes alike. Crown rufous. White superciliary and broad black stripe through eye. Collar russet. Above rusty-brown with a semiconcealed white patch on the upper back. Cheeks and throat buffy-yellow. Upper chest-band black. Belly buff-brown. Tail rusty-brown. Song a slow sequence of "tu tu tu tu....", one call per second. A ground dweller in grassy areas with bushes. Usually in pairs. Sings frequently from vantage points and not too difficult to observe when vocalizing. Locally common in dry grassland, savanna and cerrado with bushy growth. Mostly extralimital.<8E>Itirapina<8E>is the closest location to our area from which I know that this species occurs. Might occur closer to the shore in suitable habitat. Pinto cites a male collected near<8E>Franca<8E>. To about 1000 meters ^44 .
