Speckle-breasted Antpitta

13 cm. Olive-brown above with a buffy face and eye ring. Below light buff, whiter on throat, coarsely speckled with black. Very long pink legs. Song a diagnostic "tju tju tju tju tju tee tee tee tee", becoming higher in pitch at the end and more emphasized. Very difficult to observe. On or near the ground in dense humid forest. Performs short hops intermixed by stops, tosses dead leaves aside. Sings from elevated perches 2 meters up. Relatively common in primary and secondary humid forest, in dense undergrowth or bamboo thickets. Throughout, up to 1600 meters ^44 .
