19-19.5 cm. Probably not distinguishable in the field from campanisoma and ruficauda. Distinguishing characteristics are a reddish tail with a black subterminal band and pale tips. The rump and tail are reddish. The bill is small and dark. Forehead reddish without black spots. Throat whitish with no black marks. Crissum not barred. Long and very slowly ascending otus-like whistles lasting for 25-40 seconds, the longest song of the three species. A forest floor walker, climbing on logs and over roots. Regularly heard at the mid level of mountain ranges in dense forest and scrub. Throughout the area, e. g. in the<8E>Serra Mantiqueira<8E>and<8E>Boraceia, from 200-1500 meters. 12273 Song.
