17 cm. Crown and nape bright rufous. Above brown. Head sides, neck and throat black becoming gray on the belly. Sexes alike. The frequently delivered song is a rapid series of high notes that decrease in pitch at the beginning and then gradually end up on a higher pitch lasting about 5 seconds. Call also diagnostic, a singly syllabled "tshiet..... tshiet...". A bird of the forest floor that walks about deliberately in a rail-like manner cocking its tail which is usually held upright. Nests are cups put in upward opening stumps ^44 Regular, sometimes common in humid primary and secondary forest.
