10 cm. Male head, throat and chest white, streaked blackish. Back chestnut-rufous. Black wings with two white bars. Belly yellowish. Tail black. <NFemale is similar to the male, but the white on head and chest is replaced by buff. Wing coverts olive-brown. Belly buff. Song a very high pitched "zizizizizi-zi" the last syllable emphasized , resembles the song of /Ramphocaenus melanurus . Call a high pitched double syllable "tikkee tikkee tikkee tikkee" or "si dede sisisi". Also a "chip" note Ridgely and Tudor . Forages in the canopy of tall trees, sometimes down to 2-3 meters, gleaning leaves of trees and lianas. Frequently in mixed bird parties. Fairly common in the canopy of primary and secondary rainforest. Numerous along the coast from Rio de Janeiro to Bertioga<10>Santos.. Throughout, less common in the south. To 800 meters ^44 .
