13 cm. Male"s entire head, throat, breast and upper belly streaked whitish and black. Back grayish-olive with black streaks. Wings and tail brownish-black, the wing coverts black with 2 white wing bars. <NFemale is like the male, but the white parts are more buffy. Song a metallic, chippered and rather fast "zink zink-zikzikzikzikzik". Call a repeated "ziu ziu" track 5 and "zirrrr" beginning of track 4 . An upland endemic Drymophyla of southeastern Brazil. Common in undergrowth of humid forest and scrubby forest borders at higher elevations. Generally throughout, 400-1100 meters, but rare or absent at low elevations. 14388 Ubatuba, 10<10>29<10>93.
