Black-bellied Antwren

12.5 cm. Male is dark grayish-brown above, broad white superciliary stripe extending to the sides of the neck. Wings black with a white bar and white fringes to the wing coverts. Below black with only a little white on the flanks. Tail feathers have broad white tips, but are otherwise black. <NFemale is like the male, but has black cheeks only and is otherwise whitish below. Forages low in dry woodland and scrub. Rare in dry forest and scrub. Was found near<8E>Tiet<CB>, 120 km W of S<C4>o Paulo and near<8E>S<C4>o Jeronimo<8E>, 70 km southwest of<8E>S<C4>o Jose de Rio Preto, S<C4>o Paulo State ^40 and might occur closer to the coast in suitable habitat. 9529 Boa Nova, Bahia, 7<10>98.
