The account
Description
12.5 cm. Male is dark grayish-brown above, broad white superciliary stripe extending to the sides of the neck. Wings black with a white bar and white fringes to the wing coverts. Below black with only a little white on the flanks. Tail feathers have broad white tips, but are otherwise black.
Female is like the male, but has black cheeks only and is otherwise whitish below.

Forages low in dry woodland and scrub.
Habitat and status
Rare in dry forest and scrub.
Distribution
Was found near Tietê, 120 km W of São Paulo and near São Jeronimo, 70 km southwest of São Jose de Rio Preto, São Paulo State (40) and might occur closer to the coast in suitable habitat.
