12 cm. Male has a black crown, a long pronounced white superciliary stripe and a black eye-stripe. Back slate-gray. Wings black with 2 white wingbars, the wing coverts with white spots. Below whitish-grey. Tail long, black, the feathers with white tips. <NFemale has a cream-colored forehead and a dark crown streaked with white. Olivaceous back. Beige belly. Song a fast descending trill "ti tirrrrrrrrrrrrrtititititip" and an ascending fast sequence of four whistles "wo wu wa wi" cut 5 . Forages in the canopy by gleaning leaves. Frequently in small groups. Widespread in the interior of Brazil. In the canopy of tall, dry forest. Extralimital, recorded within the Estado S<C4>o Paulo in the far north from<8E>Bebedouro, Porto Tibiri<C8><C2><8E>and<8E>Itapura ^40 . I saw them in the Serra das Rosas near<8E>Franca<8E>.
