Rufous-backed Antvireo

11 cm. Male"s head and neck are slate-gray, the feathers of the sides of the head with white ends giving a grizzled impression. Back and wings chestnut-rufous. Below grayish white, with gray flanks. <NFemale has a chestnut crown, with yellowish spots on the face. Belly buff and flanks olive-brown. Song a series of about 10-12 descending high whistles "wiwiwiwiwiwiwiwiwiwi". Call a low "peurr.... peurrr....." Middle stratum of montane forest. Frequently a part of mixed bird parties.
