Song is a series of soft and unhurried "piu piu piu piu piu...." notes reminiscent of a trogon. These notes are sometimes intermingled with a faster "pi..pi..pi..pi..pi.." repeated every 10 seconds or so. Can also be heard on ^113. Found in the lower, middle and high stratum of humid forest and bamboo thickets. Very difficult to see when singing. Can be observed when foraging in bamboo. In November a male observed foraging alone in the canopy of open forest interspersed with patches of bamboo at Fazenda Intervales caught a large Tettigoniid grasshopper and carried it away. Uncommon in humid forest with a preponderance of bamboo stands. This species currently qualifies as "vulnerable". Destruction of habitat, especially bamboo forest, certainly contributes to the rarity of this species ^103 .
