6.7 Pale-eyed. Above dark rufous-brown with buffy lores and dark rufous-brown ear coverts. Below creamy white, lower down tinged with cinnamon rufous. Axillaries and underwing coverts, bright orange. Bright rufous tail. <NJuvenile is less pale below than the adult. A typical loud obtrusive "te-wit ret-ret-ret-ret" several times repeated. A loud "wit wit kit-wat kit-wat" or "tee-koee". | Forages in thickets and on the ground in debris, not very shy and sometimes easy to observe. Nest is at the end of a burrow in an earth bank. Fairly common in underbrush of dense humid primary and secondary rain forest. Can also be found in fairly degraded wood lots. Throughout the area. Rare above 900 meters.
