The account
Description
17 cm. Bill appears upturned. Above bright olive-brown with superciliary streak, face, and sides of neck orange-rufous. Wings entirely russet brown, the feathers with dark margins. Underparts orange-rufous. Tail reddish chestnut.
Immature has a paler throat, and distinct brown tips to the feathers of the forehead, breast and abdomen.

Voice
Song loud a series of 'tchek' notes starting out with a softer accelerating chatter and ending slower (44). Call a nasal 'cheh'.
Behavior
Forages low in dense forest.
Habitat and status
Rare in humid gallery forest and forest borders in the interior of Brazil. Known from Parco Nacional das Emas, Goias, Serra da Canastra, Minas Gerais, and Brazilia. Since this species is very poorly known, it might well occur closer to the coast in suitable habitat.
