Plain Xenops

11 cm. Bill appears upturned, Xenops-like . A sepia-brown crown, long white superciliary stripe and a white malar stripe below a brownish cheek. Mantle cinnamon-brown with no light streaks. Rump cinnamon rufous. Wings brown with a rusty band. Throat white, the rest of the underparts grayish-brown faintly streaked with dull buff on the upper breast. A typical "wuist wuist wuist ...". A series of "wist wist wist wist wist", and single "zit" sounds. Forages at low and middle levels in dense forest. The nest is in a tree cavity ^30 . Moderately common, in dense primary and secondary humid rain forest. Throughout, mostly below 1000 meters. The smallest furnarid in Southeast Brazil.
