Freckle-breasted Thornbird

18 cm. Uniformly dull rufous-brown above. Front chestnut-brown, lores buffy with an indistinct superciliary stripe. Throat whitish. Chest whitish, the feathers with rufous cinnamon tips creating a speckled pattern. Belly buffy white with a slight cinnamon cast. Wings rufous. Tail brown, the four outer tail feathers rufous. Song with 6-15 low introductory "wet wet..." sounds, two per second, followed by a series of 4-8 much louder and higher "twiik twiik....." sounds. A skulker that stays usually close to the ground. Inhabits borders of forest near water and scrub. Extralimital, occurs in eastern Estado do Parana almost reaching the border with Estado do S<C4>o Paulo ^44 . Reported from Curitiba by Hellmayr ^30 .
