7.4 Olive-brown above with an indistinct buff superciliary. Olive-brown wings and tail. Tail very long. Rusty throat patch. Below buff gray, the throat and abdomen lighter. Flanks brownish. <NImmature has narrow brown barring on the chest. Song | A fast high "zizizizirrrr... zizizizizizirrrr... zizizizizizizirrrrr" and variations thereof. Call | "ziieee... zieee...." Moves around inconspicuously close to the ground in dense scrub and grass. When singing, it is frequently exposed on top of a bush. Usually in pairs. Nest described by Sick ^30 as being in bushes, round with a high side entrance. An endemic spinetail occurring above the tree limit in the highest mountains of Southeast Brazil. Common in low scrubby areas interspersed with grassy patches and rocks. Est. Rio de Janeiro Serra dos Org<C4>os, Serra Mantiqueira, Desengano State Park and adjacent peaks in Est.
