5.1 Rufescent olive-brown above. Crown reddish-brown which is barred dark across front, buffy superciliary conspicuous. Wings rufous-chestnut with pale rufous coverts. Tail rusty with pointed feathers. Throat white. Below ochraceous yellow. <NImmature plumage is duller. Crown dark brown. Below more dark ochraceous breast and the upper abdomen with faint, dark barring. Song typically "zizizizizizizirrrr" somewhat descending at the end | sometimes continues 4-5 times longer than usual. Calls a sequence of "zep zep zep" notes continuing for minutes. Also double syllables like "zillip zillip...". Actively clambers about in a tit-like fashion in dense foliage, epiphytes and moss. At times hard to see. Sick ^30 , describes a nest sitting on a branch with a side entrance leading through a tubular duct around the nest inside through the top. Not uncommon in humid primary and secondary forests and borders at higher altitude above 800 meters . Higher altitudes of the costal ranges e. g.<8E>Serra Bocaina<8E>, also on top of the escarpment near<8E>Ubatuba<8E> and further inland e. g. in the <8E>Serra dos Org<C4>os, Serra Mantiqueira, and<8E>Campos do Jord<C4>o<8E>.
