The account

Description

6.3" A pale spinetail of grassy areas. Above light grayish olivaceous-brown, including forehead, remainder of crown orange rufous. Wing coverts rusty-brown. Below whitish, black gular patch, flanks becoming olivaceous-brown, abdomen whitish. Tail olivaceous-brown.

Immature plumage brown on crown similar as back. Below ochraceous-buff, more brownish on the flanks and breast. The gular patch is less well defined (⁴¹).

Where it was recorded

How the map was made

The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice

Song 'weé-brrrri', on approximately the same pitch, endlessly repeated. Can also be heard on ¹¹³.

Habitat and status

Rare in scrubby open areas and borders of grassland, hedgerows and moist meadows.

Distribution

To be expected throughout in dryer inland areas, e. g. on the inland slopes of the mountains, not close to coast. Recorde from Mogi das Cruzes (February 1933, ⁴⁰). Rare Itatiaia and Serra dos Orgãos (¹⁵). Up to 1500 meters.
