6.7 Crested with a black crown finely streaked whitish and a white superciliary. Bright uniform chestnut on the back. Wings darker, remiges edged with chestnut on the outer web. Tail chestnut with black central rectrices. Throat white, the throat and upper chest streaked blackish. Underneath ochraceous-buff, tawny on the crissum. The song is a high fast, at the end descending, staccato trill lasting for about 2 sec, calls are slower staccato sequences of "tik-" calls sometimes lasting for minutes. Often hard to see in the crowns of tall /Araucaria trees, foraging by perch-gleaning. Always associated with Araucaria. Quite common at Campos do Jord<C4>o, exclusively in Araucaria groves of various sizes. In the north reported from the<8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Campos do Jord<C4>o<8E>area. Further south at<8E>Fazenda Intervales, PE Jacupiranga, Barra do Turvo, and generally at higher elevation wherever there are Araucaria forests and groves. 16111 Calls. 10<10>26<10>99, Campos do Jord<C4>o.
