The account

Description

16 cm. Brown above, darker and heavily streaked with russet on the crown. Buff superciliary stripe. Lighter streaks on the back. A rufous-brown area in the wing. Tail brown, the outer feathers russet. Below buff, the throat whitish with dark brown spots on the throat and chest.

Voice

Song a high pitched 'zizizizizizi' with even pitch, ending abruptly.

Behavior

Forages like a chickadee in trees and bushes. Has no special affinity to Araucarias.

Habitat and status

Apparently fairly common, in forest, scrub, gardens, lowlands.

Distribution

Recorded from Curitiba, Parana which is only about 100 km from the border of Estado São Paulo (⁴⁰). To be expected in southern São Paulo state close to the border to Parana state. 500-1100 meters (⁴⁴).
