28-31 cm. Forehead to nape black. Lores, area around eyes, ear coverts, neck and upper breast golden buff. Chin and throat black, bordered above in the male by red moustachial stripe. Mantle, back, scapulars, upper wing coverts and tertials barred dark brown and white. Rump white. Upper tail coverts barred brown and white. Flight feathers dark brown, barred buffish-white. Upper tail blackish brown, the feathers with narrow buff bars. Underparts from lower breast on white, tinged pale yellow with arrowhead barring. Underwing yellow. <NThe female has a black moustachial stripe. A loud "week" in series, fast sequence of "wik" sounds,"wika wika wika" and similar notes. Behavior | Occurs in small groups. Forages almost exclusively on the ground but sits on fence posts, regularly perches on wires. Starts August-September in Argentina. Common in open country, savanna, campos, scrubland, stony slopes, swamps, fields, and pastures, among termite nests, near decaying logs. To 600 meters. Has benefited from deforestation.
