White-browed Woodpecker

21-22 cm. The male has a bright red crown, extending from the forehead to the nape, with a thin olive border. A narrow yellow supercilium extends from the eye to the side of the nape. Area around the eye, ear coverts and posterior neck sides, dark olive green. Pale yellow band from the lores to the side of the neck. Red malar stripe becoming green. Pale yellow chin and throat. Upperparts green, the flight feathers dark brown. Upper tail blackish, the feathers edged greenish. Underparts whitish, broadly barred olive. <NThe female has the forehead and crown olive and only a little red in the malar stripe. Descending "eeeww" and a diagnostic double call "ti ti", repeated several times. Forages singly or in pairs in the middle stratum of the canopy of trees: gleans from branches.
