15 cm. Male has a brown forehead and crown with pale shaft streaks, the feathers of the forehead tipped red. Hind crown red. Nape and side of the neck pale golden yellow. Olive-brown ear coverts streaked whitish. Whitish supercilium. Chin and malar region spotted olive. Above yellowish green with yellow spots or bars. Primaries and secondaries dark brown with yellow bars. Yellowish white underparts barred olive. <NThe female has an olive crown. A long series of "ew" notes ^129 . "Chek chek chek..." vocalization 1 . Forages singly or in pairs in the canopy of trees. September-October. Not uncommon in primary and secondary rain forest and edge.
