17 cm. In both sexes a black band through lores and ear coverts contrasts with a bright yellow forehead and throat and a broad ring of pale bare skin around eye. <NThe male has a red crown, nape and hindneck. Blue-black upperparts and wings. White rump and broad white mantle streaks. The breast is olive-grey, bordered below by red which extends down to the belly. Pale flanks are barred blackish. <NThe female is without red. Noisy, "tsli-di-lit repeatedly, "clit clit clit" Forages in trees at all levels. Lives in groups. Breeds in small colonies, nest in hole of tree. January-June. Common in humid forest and forest edge, palm groves and orchards. Throughout. Up to 1800 meters 13116 Call.
