37 cm. Forecrown blue. Midcrown, face, chin and throat yellow, blue or green. Hindneck and mantle green, heavily edged blackish. Shoulder and wing speculum red. Primaries tipped dark blue. Tail green, tipped yellowish the lateral tail feathers basally barred with red. <NThe immature has reduced blue and yellow on the head. Calls " criia", "cau cauu". Occurs in flocks. Forages in trees and scrub, and raids crops, Nests in a hole of a tree. October-March. Locally common in scrub, cerrado, dry forest, savannah, gallery forest, and agricultural areas.
