37 cm. Lores and forehead pinkish-red. Pink on the middle of the crown, the rest of face light violet with blue spots around the eye. Body green, paler below. Bend of the wing red. Wing coverts broadly edged yellow. Primaries and secondaries tipped dark blue. Central tail feathers green, broadly tipped yellow and with a broad red subterminal band edged blue on the lateral feathers. Diverse calls, "kwi-kwii", cue-cue", "rrrrra rrrraa". Forages in canopy of trees mostly in flocks. Nests in a hole of a tree, 1-15 meters up. September-November. Locally common in swamp forest and remaining sand forest. In southern coastal Estado S<C4>o Paulo found at<8E>Cananeia, Ariri, Ilha do Cardoso, Ilha Comprida, Iguape, Pariquera Acu, also adjacent Parana State. To 500 meters. Endangered due to trapping for the cage bird trade, sport hunting, and most importantly rapid loss of habitat ^122 .
