Red-browed Parrot

35 cm. Orange red crown grading into a brownish purple hindcrown. Area around bill yellowish pink. Cheeks bluish-violet. Ear coverts green. Nape, back, and sides of neck green with darker feather edges. The remaining body, wings and tail green, the wings with a small red speculum, black primaries and dark blue tipped secondaries. Outer tail feathers with a red subterminal patch fringed yellowish. <NThe immature has reduced red on the head. Calls "rau rau rau", "cawau cawau.." Forages in the crown of trees in flocks for fruit, seeds, berries etc. September-November. Rare, primary rainforest and forest edge, sometimes visiting degraded open forest.
