32 cm. Shining bright grass green all over. Red on the head extends to the mid crown and around bare orbital skin. Some red spots on ear-coverts and neck. Shoulders to primary coverts red. Lower thighs mixed with red. Primaries with blue tips, tail tipped yellowish. Calls in flight a loud "caw caw caw" vocalization 2 , "kee-o kee-o kee-o.." vocalization 1 . Thought to be associated with Araucaria ^124 , but also found in alder gallery forest. Roosts some times in Eucalyptus and Pinus forest. Forages in canopy of trees, in small groups and pairs. September-December, nest in hole of tree. Extralimital. To be expected as a straggler. Confined largely to Rio Grande do Sul but there is an old record from Estado S<C4>o Paulo near<8E>Piracicaba ^40 . 300-1000 meters. An endangered species due to habitat loss. ^125 .
