The account

Description

23-28 cm. Forehead to midcrown orange, hindcrown dull blue. Upper parts green. Underside greenish-yellow.

Voice

Medium pitched single calls intermingled with higher screeches.

Behavior

Forages in flocks in trees or high scrub.

Breeding

September-December.

Habitat and status

Not uncommon in cerrado, bushy savannah, gallery forest, palm groves, gardens, swamps with trees.

Distribution

Occurs inland in Estado São Paulo and Minas Gerais. No records from coastal areas are known to me, but on January 3rd, 2005, I saw 1 adult in coastal scrub near Guaratiba, SW of Rio de Janeiro (unpublished). This could have been an escaped cage bird, but might also indicate seasonal post-breeding dispersal.
