36-43 cm. Mostly green with a blue head and a red forehead. Long pointed tail olive-yellow below , blue above with a reddish base. Wings yellow below, blue above. Face skin yellowish white. Red patch on center belly. Red rump. Call "creear" "ar ar ar" etc. "ari ari" as in vocalization 1. Forages in the crowns of trees in small groups, December, February. Not uncommon in dry forest and borders of dense rain forest and swamps, caatinga and flying in noisy groups far over open areas. Throughout. Occurs inland in Estado S<C4>o Paulo, Minas Gerais and northern Estado Rio de Janeiro but rare in Atlantic coastal forest. Closer to the coast observed near<8E>Ipanema, Itarar<CA> ^119 On December 31, 2004, 6 individuals were observed flying over a park in<8E>Rio de Janeiro Remold, unpubl. obs. .
