Ruddy Quail-Dove

Male 21-28 cm, female 19-26 cm. <NChestnut upper parts suffused with purple on the nape, mantle, inner wing coverts and rump. Head below eye light buff bordered by a purplish chestnut stripe. Breast purplish pink. Buff on the belly. Bill red with a black tip. Feet purplish red. <NThe female is olive brown above instead of chestnut. <NThe juvenile is paler, chestnut tips to the scapulars, and secondaries. Rump feathers tipped cinnamon-rufous. call a dark "puuu" every 3-5 seconds. Forages on the ground in humid forest in pairs or singly. Not uncommon in humid primary and secondary dense rainforest.
