Male 23.5-29.5 cm, female 24.5-29.0 cm. <NMale | Forehead white becoming purplish iridescent brown on the crown, nape and hindneck. Olive-brown upper parts. Outer webs of outer secondaries with pale tawny fringes. Outer tail feathers black with broad white tips, the central two tail feathers gray brown. Face, throat, breast and upper belly pale grayish pink becoming white on belly. Iris straw-yellow to orange. Bare orbital patch predominantly cobalt, sky blue or grayish blue. Bill black. Feet reddish. <NThe female is duller , less vinaceous on the forehead, <NThe juvenile is duller than the adults. Call "" poo-pooo", time distance between the calls 8-9 sec according to Edwin Willis ^119 , vocalizations 2 and 3. Forages on the ground for seeds and insects.
