Blue Ground-Dove

Male 18-23 cm, female 18.5-21.5 cm. <NMale is bluish gray, the underparts paler. Forehead and throat white. Wing coverts and secondaries with black spots, the primaries black. Two central tail feathers are bluish gray, the rest are black. Iris orange to yellowish. Bill greenish. Feet pinkish. <NThe female is olive brown above with a paler forehead, black primaries, and chestnut wing spots with buff margins, <NJuveniles are like the female, but the chestnut wingspots are smaller and indistinct. Call "hu-u hu-u...." about 0.8 sec apart, second sound higher pitched than first sound. Walks on the ground in forest looking for seeds, insects etc. Rare. Occurs in dry forests in the interior and restinga in Vale do Ribeira.
