18 cm. Upperparts sandy olive brown. Underparts whitish, tinged vinous on the breast. Primaries black, the wing coverts broadly edged with white, the inner coverts with purplish spots: two black stripes across the wing coverts and over the tertials, and a white band across the wing. Outer tail feathers white. Legs and feet violet pink. Iris gray. <NThe juvenile is duller and browner. Call a sequence of "huu-o" or "tuo", Feeds on the ground in open areas in pairs and groups, perches on edifices and trees. October-April. Locally common inland, in caatinga, bushy areas, forest edge and savannah, in open grassland with scattered trees, cities. Extralimital. Seen near<8E>Bananal ^119 .
