The original program's instructions

Each disc carried pages explaining how to operate its Windows program: which menu opened the species list, how to drag the divider beside a picture, how to calibrate the screen so a bird displayed at life size.

Those pages are not published here. This website does not reproduce that program, so its instructions would describe controls that do not exist on this site. Leaving them out is a decision about what belongs on a modern website — not a gap in the record. The complete decoded text of every one of those pages, for all three releases, is preserved in this project's historical evidence, in recovered-front-matter-release-aware-v0.1.

You should not need instructions to use this site. If something here is unclear, that is a fault in the site rather than something a manual should fix.
